In its judgement of 12 May 1998 – 312 O 85/98 – “Liability for external links, Hamburg District Court ruled that website operators who post links on their websites become jointly responsible for the content of the pages to which those links point. This, according to the District Court, can only be circumvented by expressly distancing oneself from such content. Because Intercongress GmbH has no influence on the design or content of other people’s or company’s websites, Intercongress GmbH hereby distances itself expressly from all of the content of websites connected to this one by its hyperlinks.
